Alfred Finsterer (born June 8, 1908 in Nuremberg and died on January 25, 1996 in Stuttgart ) is a German painter, graphic designer and typographer. Graduate of a school of applied arts (1927 - 1930), he first worked in Nuremberg as an illustrator, but quickly noticed by Walter Tiemann (de), he is brought to work in Leipzig from 1937, where he becomes a professor in a university of graphic arts and book industry.The end of the Second World War marks the return of Finsterer to Nuremberg. From 1945 to 1947, he worked as a copywriter in a publishing house. Before the end of 1947, he moved to Stuttgart where he was given the role of artistic adviser in the publishing house Philipp Reclam, for which he drew several thousand book covers. In parallel with his career, he is in charge of Klingspor's typographic foundry in Offenbach-on-Main (1952 - 1956), Belser publishing house in Stuttgart (1957 - 1973) and Artemis publishers, Hiersemann. (de) , Kr�ner and Suhrkamp . From 1957 to 1962, he is editor of the periodicalStuttgarter Leben .From the 60s, Alfred Finsterer is moving towards the creation of works of a new genre, the engraving after the etching process.On two occasions he won the Nuremberg Albrecht D�rer Prize .
