Photogravure made from original of Curtis
by John Andrew and Son
11.75 x 15.5 in
This work is from collection of Curtis's photolithographs made in a period between 1900 and 1927. Similar prints are part of the Smithsonian collection. Each print has Curtis's signature on it (see image, visible under the direct light). The provenance of this collection is notable - the works were allegedly given to the chief of a local tribe by the author himself. Some of them are marked AP. The value of the works was unknown to the owner at a time and they were kept as regular papers, hence the present condition flaws. The chief later transferred them to the late wife of the current owner. Unlike most known prints of Curtis's works, this collection has always been in the hands of Native-Americans.
